Re-Purposed Jar with Up-Lifting Quote Tutorial
Hello my Creative Friends,
I hope you are all Well. In Today’s Tutorial I will show you how I Re-Purposed a plain Jam Jar into a modern, stylish piece of Home Decor that can be displayed anywhere in your Home or Office. It is a fun, easy and budget craft to create and I hope I inspire you to make one for yourself or for a Friend or Family member.
Preparing the Jar for Crafting
I soaked an empty Jam Jar and Lid in the Sink with warm water and washing-up-liquid for an hour. This helps to loosen the label and it then peels off easily. I then rinsed the jar and lid and dried them.
Materials for Painting the Re-Purposed Jar
The Paint I decided to use for the Jar is ‘Phthalo Blue’. It is a lovely dark shade of blue acrylic paint.
I got an unused Sponge from my Kitchen supplies and put it with my Paint stash to use for my crafts.
Painting the Jar
I poured some of the Blue Paint onto a Plate and dabbed the sponge on the paint. I then dabbed the sponge all over the bottom of the Jar.
This is a closer look at the bottom of the Jar. The sponge adds a nice texture effect.
I added more Paint to the sponge and dabbed it evenly onto the Jar.
This is how the Jar looks with about 3/4 of it Painted.
I continued with lightly dabbing the sponge on the Jar until it had 1 even coat of paint.
Here is another angle of the Jar after 1 layer of paint.
Second Coat of Paint on the Re-Purposed Jar
I left the Jar on the table for the Paint to dry. I put cling film over the Plate to prevent the Paint from drying out. I washed and squeezed out the excess water from the sponge and put it on the table to air-dry.
An hour later I applied the second layer of Paint with the sponge all over the Jar.

Priming the Lid of the Jar
I got my Acrylic Gesso and added a layer of it to the Lid of the Jar using the sponge. I used it to cover the coloured flower print on the lid. This primes it and gets it ready for more mediums such as Paint.
An hour later I added another layer of Gesso to the lid. It was now perfect for adding Paint.
Materials for Painting the Lid
I got my Gold Acrylic Paint as I thought it would be a perfect match with the dark blue shade on the Jar.
This time I will use the rougher side of the sponge to add even more texture to the lid.
Painting the Lid
I again put some Paint on the Plate, dipped the sponge into the Paint and dabbed it lightly onto the Lid until it was fully covered with Gold Paint.
I applied the second coat of Gold Paint in the same way an hour later.
When everything was dry I put the Lid back on the Jar.

Writing the Quote onto the Jar
I got my ‘Gold uni POSCA Acrylic Paint Pen’ with 0.7mm nib. I wrote the word ‘Dream’ with a slight curve on the edges of the Font, on the top of the Jar using the Paint Pen. I wrote the word ‘Believe’ under the word Dream and joined my letters together this time. Finally I wrote the word ‘Achieve’ using Block Capitals under the word Believe, on the bottom of the Jar.
Finishing Touches to the Re-Purposed Jar
I drew a Star in between the words Dream and Believe and coloured it in with the Paint Pen. I drew another Star in between the words Believe and Achieve and also coloured it in with the Gold Paint Pen.
I added another layer of the Gold Paint from the Pen over the Font and Stars about 30 minutes later.
This Completed the Re-Purposed Jar with Up-Lifting Quote Craft.

Conclusion
I am delighted with my Re-Purposed Jar with Up-Lifting Quote. I love the combination of the blue/navy with the Gold. I really like the size of the Jar as it’s not too big or small. It can be displayed on a Bedside Locker, Shelf, or on a Table without taking up too much space.
It would make a thoughtful D.I.Y Gift for someone special in your life. The Jar would encourage anyone to believe in themselves and their dreams. It would work for so many different people at different stages in their life. It would be perfect for anyone in Secondary School and College and encourage them to study and their hard work will pay off. It would also be a lovely Graduation Gift from School or College where they have finished one area of their life and are just embarking on another.
The D.I.Y. Jar would be a great option for an Entrepreneur or someone thinking of Starting their own Business. It would be a great incentive for them to keep going and not give up on their dream. It would be a kind-hearted gift for anyone at any age as it’s never too late to start over and do what makes you happy.
