D.I.Y. Flower ‘HOME’ Canvas
Hello my Creative Friends,
I hope you are all well. In Today’s Tutorial I will show you how to make a Flower ‘HOME’ Canvas. It is beginner friendly and will add a pretty piece of Home Decor to your home. It doesn’t take too long to create, and I hope it provides some inspiration for your D.I.Y. Home Crafting.
Canvas Set
I bought a set of Canvases a few weeks ago and decided to use them all in the 1 craft as they were all the same size. Canvas Board.
Silver Paint
I bought a tub of Silver paint recently and was looking forward to trying it out. I love the colour and creamy texture. I thought this would be the perfect tutorial to try it out. Metallic Acrylic Paint.
Painting the Canvases
I painted the sides of each canvas first. Canvas Board.
I then painted the front of the Canvas. I used a flat paintbrush about 1 inch in width. Paint Brush Set.
I painted the first layer on each of the four Canvases. Metallic Acrylic Paint.
After an hour I applied a second coat of paint to all four Canvases. Paint Brush Set.
I waited another hour and then applied the third and final layer of paint to the canvases. Canvas Board.
Artificial Flowers
I had some cream and purple artificial flowers and thought the colours would complement each other as well as the silver paint. Fake Flower Heads.
Removing each Flower from the Stem
I pulled each of the flower heads from their stem.
I pulled off the green plastic leaf.
I cut the plastic mid section attached to the flower. Fiskars Scissors.
I repeated these steps for all of the cream and purple flowers. Fake Flower Heads.
I am using the flowers to spell out the letters H, M, and E.
Materials for making the Heart
I decided to use lace patterned paper and cream beads to make a heart to spell the letter O. I thought this broke it up a little bit. I also liked the idea of the heart because of the ‘Home is where the Heart is’ sentiment.
I bought a ‘6 Piece Heart Cutter Set’ last year. They are intended for baking but I find them so handy for drawing different size hearts instantly for cards, art journals etc. I also bought them in ‘Star’ and ‘Flower’ Shapes. I love when materials can be used for different projects. Cookie Cutters Set.
The paper I used was ‘Icon Craft Decorative Paper Pearlescent Vintage Lace’. Lace Background Stencil.
Making the Heart
I used the biggest heart shape from the set and drew around the outside of it on the back of the lace paper using a pencil. Cookie Cutters Set.
I cut it out using a Fiskars Scissors and glued it to the Canvas by spreading ‘Anita’s Tacky PVA Glue’ over the heart using a small paintbrush. Anita’s Tacky Glue.
Beads for the Heart
The cream beads were a Pearl Garland set I bought, they were in the wedding decor section but I thought they would be lovely for any type of craft. Pearl Garland.
Adding the Beads to the Heart
I dabbed some of Anita’s Tacky Glue half way around the outside of the heart on the Canvas using a small paintbrush. I then placed the beads on the glue. I left them for about 1o minutes to set and then put more glue and the beads on the other half of the heart. I cut the string in between the beads when the heart shape was filled with beads. Pearl Garland.
Practicing the Layout of the Flowers on the Canvas
I arranged the flowers on the canvases until I was happy with the appearance. Fake Flower Heads.
I then plugged in my hot glue gun and let it heat up for 5 minutes. Hot Glue Gun.
Gluing each Flower to the Canvases
I put hot glue on the back of each flower in the mid-section and pressed it to the canvas. I repeated this until I had each flower attached to each canvas. Hot Glue Gun.
This completed the D.I.Y. Flower Canvas.
Conclusion
I was delighted with the finished result. I think it looks feminine, and pretty. I think it’s a nice way to use artificial flowers by having them on display on the wall. It would catch your eye as you enter your home, the place where you can be yourself and relax. It’s also a lovely greeting for any guests coming into your home.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s Tutorial. Let me know if you try this Flower Canvas Craft for yourselves. You can change the colour and style of flowers to suit your preferences, as well as the colour paint.
It would be a thoughtful D.I.Y. Gift Idea for anyone moving into a New Home, or as a Wedding Present. I’m sure it would be very meaningful for friends or family knowing you put your time, thought and care into making it yourself.
