Home Decor Stones
Hello my Creative Friends,
I hope you are all Well. In Today’s Tutorial I will show you how to Paint and Display Home Decor Stones. It is a Budget Craft, and completely Versatile as you can Paint the Stones any Colour you like and write various Sentiments on them. They would make a thoughtful D.I.Y. Gift for anyone moving into a New Home. I hope you enjoy the Tutorial and get some ideas from it.
Collecting the Stones for Crafting
I went to a Local Nature Scenic Trail for a Walk. I picked out 5 similiar Size Stones. I put them in a Bag, continued with my Walk and brought them Home. I laid the 5 Stones out on 2 Sheets of Kitchen Paper.
Washing the Stones
I filled up a Basin with Hot Water and Washing-Up-Liquid. I held each stone one-by-one over the Basin and dipped a bristle brush into the water and scrubbed each stone. I rinsed each stone under the tap and laid them out on 2 fresh Sheets of Kitchen Paper to dry naturally. I turned over the stones after a few hours to ensure they would dry evenly on both sides. Below is a picture of the Stones the following day after they were fully dry.
I got the 2 Stones which had the most texture and looked slightly rough, ready to Paint.
Painting Two of the Home Decor Stones
I painted 3 layers of Black Acrylic Paint onto the front and Sides of the 2 Stones, leaving an hour between each layer.
I waited 2 hours after the final layer of Paint was applied to the front of the Stones and then I painted 3 layers of Black Paint to the back of the Stones again leaving an hour between each layer.
This is a photo of all the Stones the next day after they were painted and dry.
Writing Words onto the Natural Stones
I got my ‘uni POSCA Acrylic Paint Pen in Black 0.7mm’. I wrote the words ‘Health’, ‘HOME’, and ‘Joy’ onto the Natural Stones.
Adding Font to the Painted Home Decor Stones
I got my ‘uni POSCA Acrylic Paint Pen in Gold 0.7mm’.
I wrote ‘Peace’ and ‘Luck’ onto the Painted Black Stones with the Gold Paint Pen.
This is all the Home Decor Stones together after one layer of the Paint Pens.
About 30 minutes later I applied a second layer over the Natural Stones with the Black Paint Pen.
I also applied a second layer over the Painted Home Decor Stones with the Gold Paint Pen.
Below shows all the Home Decor Stones after the second layer of writing.
Final Layer of the Paint Pens for the Font
I made the letters in the word ‘Joy’ a little wider with the Black Paint Pen.
I added one more layer with the Gold Paint Pen to make the words stand out more against the black.

Finishing Touches to the Home Decor Stones
I drew a House Silhouette onto the biggest Stone under the word ‘HOME’. I filled it in with the Black Paint Pen.
I added a Window and Door to the House using the Gold Paint Pen.
This Completed the Home Decor Stones.

Below is an image of another Home Decor Stones Craft that I made a Couple of Years ago. It isn’t the best quality photo but I wanted to include it to give another example of how you can make the Stones. I painted 4 of the Stones Purple and the ‘Home’ Stone was Painted White. All the Font was done with a Gold Paint Pen and the words are the same as what I used for this Tutorial. I displayed the Stones in a decorative box filled with raffia and laminated a Greeting for the Recipient of the Gift.
Conclusion
I am really pleased with how the Home Decor Stones turned out. I think they complement the Clay Heart I made recently and they make a great Handmade Gift for anyone moving into a New Home. I like the combination of the Natural Stones with the Painted Stones, they give a nice rustic feel to the Home. They can be displayed in a Row as they are on a Side Table in your Hallway or Entryway. They could also be added to a tray.
Here are some more D.I.Y. options for Gifts for anyone moving into a New Home or to have as part of your own Home Decor. Home Sweet Home Bottle, HOME Flower Canvas.
It is a great option for people who love Natural elements, it is a good way of bringing Nature into the Home. It can help with feeling more Grounded and connected to Nature. It is a clever way to bring the outdoors in especially if you grew up in the countryside and are now living in a Town or City. Stones won’t take up too much room and can be added for Decoration in a small Flat or Apartment.
This Craft can be done for other Occasions as well. They could be made for Engagement or Wedding Presents. You could write the Bride and Grooms Names on a Stone and the Date they got Engaged or Married. If you know where they got Engaged or Married you could see if you could go for a Walk there and find an interesting looking Stone for added Sentimental Value. You could Paint the Stones the Colours of the Theme of the Wedding and write words like ‘Love’, ‘Joy’, ‘Health’ and ‘Hope’.
You could go for a Walk to a Sentimental Place with your Family and each choose a Stone and then when you get home you could wash them and each write your own Name on the Stone. It would be fun, bonding time in Nature trying to find the perfect stone and then bonding again through Crafting. You could also pick 1 big Stone and write your Surname on it for example ‘The Smith Family’ and proudly display your quality Family Time and Artwork for All to see who enter your Home.
